Radio Pocket 1.0

A handheld FM and AM radio — a color screen, a telescoping antenna, and a built-in speaker, in your pocket.

The Radio Pocket 1.0 is a handheld FM and AM radio. It pairs a color screen with a telescoping antenna and a built-in speaker, so you can tune stations and listen anywhere — no phone, no streaming, no account. Install a radio firmware, extend the antenna, and tune.

Overview

The Radio Series is built for FM and AM radio. The Radio Pocket is the portable one — a flat handheld with the same tuner, speaker, and antenna as the desktop Radio Station. It plays on its own through a built-in speaker, with a telescoping antenna you pull out for reception. It uses the Pocket form factor.

Anatomy & Controls

The Radio Pocket is three modules stacked into one pocket body — the Core in front, the battery behind it, and the FM / AM Radio module at the back, which carries the speaker and the telescoping antenna.

The Core — the touchscreen, the five navigation keys (Up, Right, Enter, Left, Down), and the four top buttons (L1, boot, power, R1).The battery module — the power button, USB-C charging port, and power / charging indicator lights along its edge.

The screen and Core controls:

  • A 2.0-inch color touchscreen.
  • Five navigation keys: Up · Right · Enter · Left · Down.
  • Four buttons on the top edge: L1 · boot · power · R1.
  • A small status light — its color and blink pattern depend on the firmware.

Radio, speaker, and antenna: the FM / AM Radio module brings the tuner, a built-in speaker, and a telescoping antenna on top — pull the antenna out for the best reception.

Ports and power buttons:

  • USB-C on the Core — charges the battery, installs firmware, and connects to a computer.
  • A power button on the Core (top edge) and a power button on the battery (its edge) — see First Boot below.

The power button is a hardware switch

A long press (about two seconds) turns the device on or off. It's a hardware switch, so it always works, even if the firmware is busy.

Bands & Reception

The FM / AM Radio module receives:

  • FM — 65–108 MHz, covering the Eastern European, Japanese, European, and US FM bands.
  • AM — long wave (LW), medium wave (MW), and shortwave (SW).
  • FM stereo with RDS / RBDS station text — station name, track info, and more.

Pull out the telescoping antenna for the best reception, especially on weaker stations.

First Boot & Charging

Charge It

Charge through the Core's USB-C port — any standard USB power source works, and you can use the device while it charges. Give a new device a full charge before its first long session.

Two USB-C ports — use the Core's

The Radio Pocket has a second USB-C port on the battery module. That one only works while the device is off, so for everyday charging use the Core's USB-C port.

Power It On

The Radio Pocket has two power buttons — one on the battery and one on the Core. Because the battery supplies the power, turn it on first.

Turn the battery on. Long-press the power button on the battery module's edge for about two seconds.

Turn the Core on. Long-press the power button on the Core's top edge (the third of its four top buttons) for about two seconds, until the screen lights up.

To turn off, long-press the Core's power button, then the battery's.

Using Your Radio Pocket

Tuning and playback come from the firmware you install — the software running on your device. One radio firmware you can run is FM / AM Radio.

Install a radio firmware (see Updating Firmware).
Extend the telescoping antenna for the best reception.
Tune to a station and listen through the built-in speaker.

Updating Firmware

Your Radio Pocket can run compatible radio firmware such as FM / AM Radio. The easiest way to install or update firmware is the Attaky Firmware Store (fwstore.attaky.com), which runs in your browser — no extra tools to install.

You'll need a USB-C cable that carries data (some are charge-only) and Chrome or Edge on a desktop computer. Connect the Core's USB-C port, choose your firmware, and install it — keep the device connected until it reboots into the new firmware.

Only install firmware made for your hardware

Don't unplug during the install, and install only firmware built for your build. Firmware meant for different modules can drive the hardware the wrong way and permanently damage a module or the Core. If you're not sure a firmware matches, don't install it.

Safety & Compliance

  • Battery — a standard rechargeable lithium cell. Charge from a normal USB source, keep it out of extreme heat, and don't puncture, crush, or open the module. If the battery looks swollen or damaged, stop using it.
  • Heat & sunlight — use the device between 0 °C and 40 °C (32–104 °F). Don't leave it for long in hot places such as a parked car, and keep it out of direct sunlight and direct UV.
  • Water & moisture — the Radio Pocket is not waterproof. Keep it dry — away from rain, splashes, and damp places — and don't let water get inside.

Troubleshooting

  • It won't turn on — charge it first (a flat battery won't boot), then hold the power button for about two seconds (not a quick press). Make sure the battery is switched on too.
  • It won't charge — charge through the Core's USB-C port with a working cable and a standard USB source. (The battery module's USB-C port only works while the device is off.)
  • The Firmware Store can't find your device — use a USB-C cable that carries data (not charge-only), use Chrome or Edge on a desktop, and close any other app connected to the device.
  • Poor reception — extend the telescoping antenna fully, and try moving near a window or away from interference.
  • No sound — check the volume in your firmware; audio plays through the built-in speaker.
  • A feature isn't working — make sure your firmware matches your hardware; tuning and playback come from the firmware. See your firmware's documentation.
