Mesh Station Junior 1.0
The desktop Mesh node — long-range LoRa messaging and GPS in an upright, always-on base.
The Mesh Station Junior 1.0 is the desktop member of the Mesh Series — the same off-grid radios as the rest of the family, in a form built to sit still. It stands upright on four legs, so you can keep it on a desk or shelf as a fixed, always-on node that relays for the mesh and shows your messages at a glance.
Overview
Mesh builds are for staying in touch when there's no signal — hiking, festivals, travel, or anywhere off the grid. Instead of a cellular or internet connection, they use a long-range LoRa radio: a group of devices relay each other's messages, so you stay connected across distance.
The Mesh Station Junior is the one to leave in a fixed spot — a home, a basecamp, a cabin, a workshop. It runs the same long-range LoRa radio and GPS as the rest of the family, stands upright on four screw-on legs, and is made to sit plugged in as a home-base node. There's no keyboard: you type on the touchscreen or from the companion app on your phone. It uses the Station form factor.

Anatomy & Controls
The Mesh Station Junior is three modules stacked into one upright body — the Core in front, the battery behind it, and the LoRa / GPS radio at the back — standing on four screw-on legs (removable; unscrew them to pack it flat).

The screen and Core controls:
- A 2.0-inch color touchscreen.
- Five navigation keys: Up · Right · Enter · Left · Down.
- Four buttons on the top edge: L1 · boot · power · R1.
- A small status light — its color and blink pattern depend on the firmware.
- The LoRa antenna screws onto the top — attach it before you use the radio.
Legs, ports, and power buttons:
- Four screw-on legs thread into the base to stand the device upright; unscrew them to pack it flat.
- USB-C on the Core — charges the battery, installs firmware, and connects to a computer.
- A power button on the Core (top edge) and a power button on the battery (its edge) — see First Boot below.
The power button is a hardware switch
A long press (about two seconds) turns the device on or off. It's a hardware switch, so it always works, even if the firmware is busy.
First Boot & Charging
Charge It
The Mesh Station Junior is made to sit plugged in. Charge — and run it — through the Core's USB-C port; any standard USB power source works, and you can use it while it charges. Give a new device a full charge before its first long session.
Two USB-C ports — use the Core's
The Mesh Station Junior has a second USB-C port on the battery module. That one only works while the device is off, so for everyday power and charging use the Core's USB-C port.

Power It On
The Mesh Station Junior has two power buttons — one on the battery and one on the Core. Because the battery supplies the power, turn it on first.
Turn the battery on. Long-press the power button on the battery module's edge for about two seconds.
Turn the Core on. Long-press the power button on the Core's top edge (the third of its four top buttons) for about two seconds, until the screen lights up.
To turn off, long-press the Core's power button, then the battery's.
Using Your Mesh Station Junior
A Mesh build communicates over a long-range LoRa radio — no SIM, no internet — and includes GPS positioning. Stand the Mesh Station Junior on its legs, plug it in, and leave it running as an always-on node. It has no keyboard, so you type on the touchscreen or from the companion app on your phone, and read on the upright screen.
The messaging itself comes from the firmware you install — the software running on your device. Two mesh firmwares you can run are Meshtastic and MeshCore. With a mesh firmware installed, you can:
- Send encrypted text messages across the mesh, fully off-grid.
- Share your GPS position with your group.
- Relay for others — a fixed, always-on node extends the network's reach for everyone nearby.
Updating Firmware
Your Mesh Station Junior can run compatible mesh firmware such as Meshtastic or MeshCore.
The easiest way to install or update firmware is the Attaky Firmware Store
(fwstore.attaky.com), which runs in your browser — no extra tools to install.
You'll need a USB-C cable that carries data (some are charge-only) and Chrome or Edge on a desktop computer. Connect the Core's USB-C port, choose your firmware, and install it — keep the device connected until it reboots into the new firmware.
Only install firmware made for your hardware
Don't unplug during the install, and install only firmware built for your build. Firmware meant for different modules can drive the hardware the wrong way and permanently damage a module or the Core. If you're not sure a firmware matches, don't install it.

Safety & Compliance
- Battery — a standard rechargeable lithium cell. Charge from a normal USB source, keep it out of extreme heat, and don't puncture, crush, or open the module. If the battery looks swollen or damaged, stop using it.
- Heat & sunlight — use the device between 0 °C and 40 °C (32–104 °F). Don't leave it for long in hot places such as a parked car, and keep it out of direct sunlight and direct UV.
- Water & moisture — the Mesh Station Junior is not waterproof. Keep it dry — away from rain, splashes, and damp places — and don't let water get inside.
- Antenna — like any radio, don't transmit without the LoRa antenna attached.
- Frequency & antenna — your Mesh Station Junior ships with a 915 MHz whip antenna and operates at 915 MHz (North America and other 915 MHz regions). Set your firmware's region to match your antenna.
Troubleshooting
- It won't turn on — charge it first (a flat battery won't boot), then hold the power button for about two seconds (not a quick press). Make sure the battery is switched on too.
- It won't charge — charge through the Core's USB-C port with a working cable and a standard USB source. (The battery module's USB-C port only works while the device is off.)
- The Firmware Store can't find your device — use a USB-C cable that carries data (not charge-only), use Chrome or Edge on a desktop, and close any other app connected to the device.
- Messages won't send — make sure the antenna is attached and your firmware's region matches your antenna.
- A feature isn't working — make sure your firmware matches your hardware; mesh messaging needs the LoRa / GPS module.
- Messaging problems — message setup, channels, and contacts are handled by the firmware; see your firmware's documentation.
